Blood sample collection options
Finger prick kit (FREE)
All our kits require a finger prick blood sample which is quick and easy to do at home. But if you don't like the idea of squeezing blood out of your finger, here are some other options:
A home visit by a nurse (+£60)
Have a nurse visit you at home to take your blood sample from your vein. The kit will come with everything the nurse needs to do the blood sample collection. Once you've placed your order, we'll be in touch to arrange an appointment.
Visit a clinic (+£45)
You can visit one of our partner clinics to have a nurse take a blood sample from your vein. Select this option at checkout where you can also see which clinics are near you. Once you've placed your order, we'll send you an email to arrange your appointment.
Organise a nurse myself (FREE)
If none of the above options work for you, you can arrange your own medical professional to collect your sample. There is no additional charge for this. Once you've ordered your test, we'll send you everything you and your chosen medical professional will need to collect a sample and post it back to our labs.
You can choose your blood sample collection method in the checkout. Learn more about sample collection.
When to take the test
If you’re having a regular period, collect your sample on day 3 of your menstrual cycle (day 1 being the first day of your period), otherwise take the test at any time. Take within 3 hours of waking.
IMPORTANT: To avoid contamination, use a different hand than the one you applied hormone gel/cream with for your blood sample.
Benefits of Blood Testing for Runners
Uncover Your Body's Unique Responses
Our Female Runner blood test measures a range of biomarkers, including cortisol, creatine kinase, haemoglobin, and key female hormones like oestrogen. These data insights reveal how your body responds to training, nutrition, and stress, enabling you to personalise your running approach for the best results.
Avoid Hormone Imbalances
Overtraining can have a big impact on your hormone network. Without proper recovery and nutrition, your body will start to shut down some bodily functions to prioritise recovery. One of the first functions to go is your menstrual cycle. It can start as irregular periods but can lead to amenorrhea, which can cause bone density to decrease - increasing the risk of injury. This test helps you keep track of your body’s recovery, avoiding overtraining and negative side effects on your hormones.
Fine-tune Your Nutrition
Nutrient deficiencies can hinder your running performance. Our test evaluates essential nutrient levels, including vitamin D and iron, ensuring you're replenishing your body's needs.
Empower Yourself with Data
Data can help you find your edge. Our Female Runner blood test empowers you to make informed decisions that align with your specific needs and goals. By understanding what’s going on inside, you can push yourself to reach your potential.
Track Your Progress
By tracking biomarkers over time you'll be able to see the impact any changes to your training, diet, recovery and lifestyle are having on your health, fitness and performance. 75% of Edge customers improved their cortisol and CRP levels after their first test - key biomarkers related to stress, recovery and inflammation.

We're changing people's lives
Unlock your potential with sports blood tests
You’re always striving for progress. Faster times, more endurance, stronger performances. But pushing harder isn’t always the key to improvement.
Overtraining, nutrient deficiencies, and hormonal imbalances can lead to fatigue, injury, and frustrating plateaus. If your body isn’t properly fueled and recovered, you’re not just risking poor performance, you’re risking your health.
That’s where blood testing comes in. It gives you insight into what’s really happening beneath the surface - whether your iron levels are low, your muscles are struggling to recover, or your hormones are out of sync.
Our data from hundreds of female EDGE customers revealed that 42% had low vitamin D levels, which can lead to weak bones and poor recovery. Over a third (35.6%) had high cortisol, meaning their bodies were in a prolonged state of stress, increasing injury risk. And 1 in 5 had oestrogen levels outside the healthy range, which can impact energy, metabolism, and overall performance.
By understanding your unique biomarkers, you can make informed decisions about your training, nutrition, and recovery. Improvement isn’t just about running more; it’s about training smarter. A blood test can help you find the balance you need to find your EDGE.

What does the Female Runner Blood Test check?
This test examines the key biomarkers that affect your energy levels, performance, and recovery. It checks iron, vitamin B12, and vitamin D, essential for oxygen transport, bone strength, and muscle function. It also analyses oestrogen, cortisol, and other hormones, helping you understand how your body responds to training stress and recovery. Additionally, it assesses red blood cell count, muscle health, and inflammation markers, so you can spot signs of overtraining before they turn into injuries.
Who is this test for?
This test is designed for female runners of all levels; from those building fitness to elite endurance athletes. If you’ve been struggling with energy dips, slow recovery, or unpredictable training progress, this test provides real data to help you train smarter, not just harder.

You can choose your preferred collection method once you add the test to your basket.
