All our kits require a finger prick blood sample which is quick and easy to do at home. But if you don't like the idea of squeezing blood out of your finger, here are some other options:

A home visit by a nurse (+£60)

Have a nurse visit you at home to take your blood sample from your vein. The kit will come with everything the nurse needs to do the blood sample collection. Once you've placed your order, we'll be in touch to arrange an appointment.

Visit a clinic (+£45)

You can visit one of our partner clinics to have a nurse take a blood sample from your vein. Select this option at checkout where you can also see which clinics are near you. Once you've placed your order, we'll send you an email to arrange your appointment.

Organise a nurse myself (FREE)

If none of the above options work for you, you can arrange your own medical professional to collect your sample. There is no additional charge for this. What This Test Covers

Our at-home testosterone blood test checks vital biomarkers that affect performance, recovery, and overall health:

  • Total Testosterone: Measures the overall testosterone level in your blood, a key hormone that supports muscle growth, energy, and stamina.
  • Albumin (ALB): A protein that helps transport testosterone and maintain fluid balance in the body, impacting muscle recovery and endurance.
  • Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG): Regulates the amount of free testosterone available for muscle building and performance.
  • Free Testosterone (calculated): The portion of testosterone that is bioavailable and active, essential for strength, recovery, and mood regulation.
  • Oestradiol (Oestrogen): An important hormone that, in high levels, can negatively affect muscle mass and fat distribution.
  • Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT): A marker of liver health, crucial for athletes using supplements or PEDs that may impact liver function.
  • Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) & Luteinising Hormone (LH): These hormones regulate natural testosterone production.
  • Creatine Kinase (CK): A marker of muscle damage and recovery, allowing you to monitor overtraining and reduce injury risk.
  • Creatinine & Urea: Key markers for kidney health, especially important for athletes on high-protein diets or supplements.
  • Haemoglobin: Reflects oxygen-carrying capacity, directly impacting endurance and overall physical performance.

Key Benefits for Athletes and Bodybuilders

Prevent Overtraining and Injury

High-intensity training can lead to muscle damage and stress on the body. Monitoring biomarkers like Creatine Kinase (CK) and testosterone levels allows you to:

  • Detect early signs of overtraining before injury occurs.
  • Adjust your training intensity based on recovery insights.
  • Maintain muscle health and reduce the risk of long-term damage.

Optimise Hormonal Balance for Peak Performance

Testosterone plays a crucial role in muscle building, fat distribution, mood, and energy levels. With this test, you can:

  • Identify low testosterone levels that may be hindering your gains.
  • Monitor the balance between testosterone and oestradiol (oestrogen), as excess oestrogen can limit muscle growth and cause unwanted fat retention.
  • Ensure your hormone levels are optimised for maximum strength, endurance, and recovery.

Track the Effects of TRT and PEDs Safely

If you’re on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) or using performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), regular blood testing is vital. This test helps you:

  • Ensure your testosterone levels are within a healthy range to avoid negative side effects like mood swings, fatigue, or reduced muscle mass.
  • Monitor liver and kidney function (via ALT, Creatinine, and Urea), which can be impacted by PEDs or supplements.
  • Stay on top of your hormonal health and make adjustments to your regimen for optimal results and safety.

Why Regular Testosterone Testing is Essential

“Normal” testosterone levels vary. We looked at thousands of blood test results and found the average testosterone level in men is 17.2 nmol/L.

We also looked at factors that can impact testosterone like exercise hours and BMI and found some interesting correlations.

Men with a BMI in the ‘Obese’ range had an average testosterone level of 14 nmol/L, 22% lower than those with a ‘Healthy’ BMI (18.1 nmol/L).

The number of hours men exercise also impacts testosterone levels, with those exercising 0-5 hours per week having 13% lower levels than those exercising 6-10 hours (16.6 nmol/L vs 19 nmol/L).

Frequently asked Questions

What is testosterone?

Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone, though it is also present in women in smaller amounts. It affects muscle growth, fat distribution, bone density, energy levels, and overall well-being.

How does testosterone impact sports performance?

Testosterone is important for muscle strength, endurance, and recovery. It promotes muscle protein synthesis, helping athletes build and maintain lean muscle mass. Optimal testosterone levels also support energy, motivation, and competitive drive, all of which are needed for peak performance.

How does the test work?

The test is a simple, at-home blood test. Once you place your order, we send you a kit with everything you need. Collect a small blood sample from your fingertip, send it back to our accredited lab using the prepaid packaging, and receive your results online within a few days.

Is your packaging discreet?

Yes, all of our test kits are sent in plain, unbranded packaging to ensure complete privacy.

Are my results confidential?

Absolutely. Your results are securely stored and only accessible through your private dashboard. We do not share your data with third parties without your consent.

Can I use this to track TRT?

Yes. If you are on Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT), this test can help monitor your levels and assess the effectiveness of your treatment. By tracking key markers like total and free testosterone, SHBG, and albumin, you can work with your healthcare provider to optimise your hormone therapy.

Is this test suitable for bodybuilders?

Yes. Many bodybuilders and strength athletes use this test to monitor their testosterone levels and ensure they are in the optimal range for muscle growth, recovery, and overall performance.

What causes low testosterone?

Athletes can experience low testosterone due to overtraining, poor recovery, and nutritional deficiencies. Excessive exercise and high cortisol levels (from stress or lack of sleep) can suppress testosterone production.

Low-calorie diets or deficiencies in key nutrients (such as healthy fats, zinc, and vitamin D) also contribute. Endurance training, prolonged stress, and performance-enhancing drugs can further disrupt hormonal balance. If you're experiencing fatigue, reduced strength, or slow recovery, testing your levels can help optimise your training, nutrition, and recovery.

What are the symptoms of low testosterone?

Common symptoms of low testosterone include: Fatigue and low energy

  • Reduced muscle mass and strength
  • Increased body fat
  • Low sex drive and erectile dysfunction
  • Mood changes, including depression or irritability
  • Poor concentration and memory
  • If you experience any of these symptoms, testing your testosterone levels can help determine if a hormonal imbalance is the cause.

How soon will the test arrive?

If you order your test before midday on a Monday to Friday then your kit will be dispatched the same day. All our kits are sent out via Royal Mail first class post, so it should be with you within 1-2 working days.

When will I get my results?

We aim to deliver your results within 2 working days of your blood sample arriving at our lab.

How do I view my results?

When you buy your test, we will ask you to create an account with us during checkout. This will give you access to your own, secure health dashboard where you can view your results.

    How secure is my data?

We have strict processes in place to ensure the protection of your data. Following GDPR the company also operates under tight legal rules about the sharing of data which ensures that data is only shared if it is crucial to the delivery of our service. For example, our doctors see customer results at the time of review, however, after review, access to results is withdrawn.

How do I find out my results are ready?

We keep you updated throughout the process by email and text message. We will let you know when your blood sample has arrived at our lab.  Once the blood sample has been analysed one of our doctors will review your results. Once your results are ready, we will email you and send you a text message to let you know your results are ready for you to view in your health dashboard.

Does a doctor review my results?

We have a team of doctors and nurses who look at all results and will comment on any results that are outside of the normal range for your age.
